Night at the flix...

Got a couple of movies out of the Video store this evening. I got "17Again", "The Boat that Rocked", "Milk", and "The boy in the striped pyjamas". I haven't watched milk yet, but the first two were fairly decent, "The Boat that Rocked", is well worth a watch, for some good British humour!

Now I wanted to talk about, "The boy in the striped pyjamas". This was a powerful and most chilling film, especially as it is shown through the eyes of an eight year old boy.

This film is a must watch for anyone! I know that there have been several on the subject, and  I, in no way, am intending to "Gerry Bash" here. Incredibly powerful and horrific mistakes were made, during this time. But this film does portray an important message. There is a scene in the film where the children's tutor , effectively brainwashes them during a so called "Lesson". I was truely horrified by this, but can certainly believe these things took place.

I have heard many people say that history is not important. This film shows just how important learning history is. I have always maintained that we need to know where we have come from, in order to know where we are  going. Please watch this film, but I warn you now have a tissue handy.

That clip really got to me unexpectedly. Between my Junior and Senior years in high school I went on a summer school exchange to Germany, and have seen several camps, including Dachau. Thanks for the heads up on a good movie. I'm putting it on my Netfix list right now.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a beautiful, intensely powerful movie. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the Holocaust, and even more to anyone who isn't interested in it.
